Instruction and practice to develop well-rounded semi-formal writing skills. We will address 1) the writing process including pre-writing and brainstorming with attention to purpose; 2) structural considerations, including organization of ideas, paragraph structure and the preliminary pattern of the five paragraph essay; and 3) various patterns of composition, including the personal essay, narratives, and persuasive essays.

Text/Materials needed	Style manual and possibly student text (to be determined).
Basic skills required	Basic writing skills such as sentence construction. An introduction to grammar is helpful. Beginning note taking skills. Typing skill helpful -- or can be co-developing this skill.
