This course is designed to provide an overview of the basic science concepts and techniques used in a forensic laboratory. Students will analyze the nature and significance of physical evidence and discover the underlying chemical and biological reasons for their importance. Then they will select the appropriate scientific techniques for analysis and interpret their findings to solve simulated crimes. Topics covered include (but are not limited to) hair, fiber, and simulated human remains analysis, forensic serology, blood spatter, fingerprinting, solving crime using entomology, bullet trajectory analysis, and chemistry.
