This course is an introduction to the principles of animal sciences. During the course of the year students will study rabbits, cavies (guinea pigs) and chickens. Each unit will involve students learning proper animal handling techniques, basic anatomy, breed identification, disease and heath topics, parasitology identification, behavior, and embryology. Students will be charting the growth and development of all animals from birth to weaning and be hatching chicks from eggs.

One time Materials cost includes All handouts, and lab materials.
IN ORDER TO ENSURE TIMELY DELIVERY OF MATERIALS, SUPPLY FEES WILL BE COLLECTED EARLY ON JUNE 30TH.
Prerequisites No animal allergies and long sleeves. Student MUST be willing to handle animals every week.
Basic skills required This is a class with strong science content. Students do get to interact with animals every week but must be willing to participate in the science related activities as well. This is not an "animal petting class" :)
Parental Responsibilities ANY STUDENT WHO IS THIRD GRADE OR UNDER WHO WISHES TO TAKE THIS CLASS, MUST PASS AN ANIMAL HANDLING SAFETY TEST TO SEE IF THEY ARE PHYSICALLY LARGE ENOUGH TO HANDLE THE ANIMALS SAFELY. OLDER STUDENTS DO NOT NEED TO PASS A TEST AND CAN ENROLL WITHOUT PERMISSION.
